Deadpool and the movie

So, since this blog and I are still getting to know each other, let me introduce my latest obsession: Deadpool. This, my friends, is Deadpool:

He loves Bea Arthur, he speaks in yellow speech bubbles, he's certifiably insane, and he loves the ladies. What a catch.

Recently, hes gotten quite a lot of popularity since he was in the movie X-Men Origins: Wolverine, a couple video games (including the recent Marvel VS Capcom 3), his own slew of comic books. He’s had at least two slightly old-ish series, six mini-series, and is currently in the comics Deadpool, Deadpool Corps, and Deadpool Team-Up. You can read more about him here.

I basically became infatuated with him when my brother did which was a couple years ago. (Side note, my brother is a huge influence on my comic book preferences.) Anyway, after reading a bit and catching up with him on various Deadpool tumblrs (f*ckyeahdeadpool, deadpool and effyeahdeadpool to name a few), I read his entire first series, his series with Cable, his five or six mini series and I’m now reading Deadpool Corps before moving on to Deadpool Team-Up. It seems absurd, but it feels like I love him I’ve known him for a long time, and if I go a day without rereading something of his, I actually miss him.

Anyway, I still haven’t seen it, but the absurdity of Wade Wilson in X-Men Origins: Wolverine is just ridiculous, especially if you know that the Merc with a Mouth doesn’t have a mouth to talk? That just seems impossible.

Ryan Reynolds as Wade Wilson, AKA Deadpool

Ryan Reynolds as Wade Wilson, AKA Deadpool

However, supposedly Ryan Reynolds portrays him pretty well before the writers went crazy, but after reading the series myself I can’t really picture Ryan as Wade anymore. Now, don’t get me wrong; Ryan Reynolds is a great actor, and I can get behind him as Hal Jordan in the upcoming Green Lantern movie, but I want a different voice for Wade.

A lot of the video games and cartoons have Wade’s voice kind of inbetween tenor and alto, when I think he should be between tenor and baritone. I’ve always kind of imagined he sounded a bit more gruff and dark than everyone seems to portray him, especially since all that stuff with Blind Al and The Box.

I’ve got a small list for who I think should play Mr. Wilson.

Timothy Olyphant

I think Timothy Olyphant would do great. I really love him in Justified, and I heard he was excellent in Deadwood. I haven’t heard his non-Southern voice, though, and I’m much too lazy to look it up now.

Jensen Ackles

I also think Jensen Ackles would be perfect. I absolutely love him on Supernatural. I already know he’s good at joking around and delivering the lines perfectly, and he’s got that sarcasm voice spot on.

Michael Weatherly

And my last pick for Deadpool would be Michael Weatherly. He’s really amazing on NCIS. He also has a great comedy voice, but is also extremely good at drama.

Now, on a more superficial note, I don’t want to see any of these faces covered in scars and tumors. But I’d still love them anyway! (Am I right, ladies?!)
