March Is Awesome 2011 #1

MIA '11

Welcome to the First Annual March Is Awesome event, here at my humble abode. The amount to which I love my very own month of March is absurd; my birthday, my brother’s birthday, many of my friends’ birthdays, the beginning of spring, and much, much more! Will you join me in my celebration of March? Alright!

March 1st

Today, in history: Yahoo! was incorporated in 1995. I don’t know about you guys, but Yahoo! was such a big deal to me when I was growing up. I still sing the jingle every now and then!

Celebrity Birthdays: The lovely George Eads from CSI turns 44 today which is impossible, because he does not look 44. Nick (the character he plays) was my favourite character for a very long time.

What’s happening today?: March 1st is St. David’s Day, a Welsh holiday, and this is important, because one of my favourite characters, Ianto Jones (from Torchwood), is Welsh. Yes. You read that right.

DVDs and Movies: Burlesque, Love and Other Drugs, and 127 Hours comes out on DVD today – I’ve seen Burlesque, and I loved it! I also really want to see Love and Other Drugs – I love Jake Gyllenhaal and Anne Hathaway.

Other: Today is Ron Weasley’s birthday, my favourite Weasley (and character in the Harry-Potter-era of the series). In video game news, Vagrant Story by Square Enix was remade and released on PSP today.

And that’s all! If you know of any other exciting things happening today, feel free to leave them in the comments! Thanks for playing!

I’m finished with the new layout of the site, and I’ll be damned if I don’t say I’m a little proud of how it came out. I pulled at my hair; bitched and moaned; and worried constantly, but here’s the finished result. And it’s fabulous, I have to say! There are no sidebars or widgets to distract you, and the cuteness of the layout fits me better, I think. There’s just one thing that bugs me, but I don’t think I can fix it without killing the PHP.

Anyway, Took me a good chunk of two months to cobble this together, I hope you like it! I’ve also turned this site more into a blog with a portfolio, than a portfolio with a blog. (Confused? Sorry!) Didn’t plan on that. Will add posts from my artsy tumblr, and more personal posts posthaste!

So, onto my life. I’m more or less moving on with my life, but I still have to talk to one of my supervisors tomorrow. But I have freelance work in my future, which I think I’m more suited for anyway. (Working in your PJs. Awesome!)

In other news, February is gone. I sincerely miss the snow back in New York; all this sun is not good for my mental facilities. It almost snowed this past weekend, but California lied and it didn’t happen, at least not in the Bay Area.

March is coming up, which means tons and tons of birthdays! I recently got into crocheting and it is the most glorious craft-related thing I can do with hands. I’ve already given two as presents away, and because all of my friends’ birthdays seem to be in March, I have a ton of “homework” to do. Two this week, in fact, one more next week, and at least five more in the following two weeks, including the beginning of April! Not to mention my own is coming up, and I have to decide/plan what to do. Phew.

It’s been a loooong time, hasn’t it? Well, real life has kind of bogged me down, more or less.

But there’s a lot of new things coming up! I’m in the process of getting a new layout up, I’m switching entirely to the blog, among some other~ things, so check me out soon!

Christmastime is here~!

This is probably one of my favourite times of the year, hands down. It beats summer by a landslide; I hate the heat and the sweating and the general uncomfortableness of the season. The only thing I liked about it was the summer break from school, and now that I’m not in school, I don’t get that luxury anymore. And I like winter more than autumn only because I hate cleaning the yard (or, more like, feeling guilty about not helping to clean the yard). Spring is tied for first, because my favourite month is March, and my birthday’s in spring, and though I get allergies like nobody’s business, I still love that season.

But, ah winter. There’s holiday cheer that I simply love and so much yummy food; putting up the tree; staying in and watching movies while cuddling under blankets; drinking hot chocolate and snacking on kettle corn; and finally a chance for me to wear my winter coat I love so much and the best part: snow. Oh, snow. And ice skating outside and sledding and snowmen and snow angels, and sigh, I love this time of year.

I think my favourite time about the holidays, though, is the songs. I’m not religious in anyway, but I just adore winter-y songs. When I was younger, I was in piano class, and even though I quit way before high school, I still used to get on the bench and play out a couple tunes. Now, though, our piano was given to my cousins, who play much more than I do, so I make do with songs. Lots and lots of songs.

My very favourite one is Winter Wonderland. Here’s a cover done by Jason Mraz:

I also love Let It Snow:

And who can forget the classics? Like Santa Claus is Comin’ To Town, Rudolph the Red Nose Reindeer, and Frosty the Snowman? They’re the best. I even love the Christian classics, like Good King Wenceslas, Silent Night, and The First Noel. Also, the amazing Carol of the Bells which, to me, musically symbolizes Christmas, and Deck The Halls is always sung, at least in my head.
