Makeup Monday: Colourpop! Review/First Impressions

Makeup Monday

Over the past couple of years, I went from “sometimes putting eyeliner and lipstick on” to learning how to take care of your skin and how to do that with makeup. I just wanted to share the love for all things beauty and skin-care related. Let me know what you think!

My co-workers and I got a Colourpop order together and this is what I got! Please let me know what you think and if you have any other Colourpop recommendations!

Makeup Monday: Concealers!

Makeup Monday

Over the past couple of years, I went from “sometimes putting eyeliner and lipstick on” to learning how to take care of your skin and how to do that with makeup. I just wanted to share the love for all things beauty and skin-care related. Let me know what you think!

Today I’m going to be talking about concealers! These are some concealers I use or have used, and then I’ll share some on my wishlist! I actually only started using concealer a short time ago, and I wasn’t even sure I was using it correctly until I watched more makeup tutorials. I didn’t think this list would be very long, but it’s not a short list either!

Makeup Monday: Concealers

  1. Laura Mercier – Secret Camoflauge: I got this product as a newbie and had no idea what I was doing. (I still have it and occasionally use it but I still have no idea what I’m doing.) I like using it on days I feel more fancy because it was pretty expensive for me. Sometimes I like to contour with it, I think it conceals pretty well, I’m just more used to using a liquid rather than a creme to conceal with. I use this with a BeautyBlender usually.
  2. Evelyn Iona – Natural and Organic Concealer: I got this in a Birchbox, and I really liked it! I was sad to use it all up. This was also a very creamy concealer, but I would usually wet my concealer brush before dipping into this so I think that worked very well.
  3. Amazing Cosmetics – Amazing Concealer: I got this as a sample from Sephora, and there wasn’t a lot in the sample, but this was the first liquid I ever used and I really liked it! It had amazing coverage and it lasted all day, even without a finishing powder (this was before I used finishing powder). I wish I could afford a whole tube.
  4. Maybelline – Fit Me Concealer: My only drugstore item! I only just got this a couple weeks ago (you can see my Haul video here). I really like it, I don’t think it stays that well, I think I should layer this with maybe my Laura Mercier one, but it brightens well, I think, and it blends well.

Here is my small wishlist! As I stated in my last Makeup Monday post, I’m not sure if I want to go cruelty-free or not, but I did separate my wishlist into cruelty-free and non-cruelty-free brands. These are items that I most want to try (there are more on my wishlist, but these are the top 3. They are listed from least expensive to most expensive!

Cruelty-Free Brands

  • NYX: I just love NYX and the fact that it’s a drugstore brand and that it’s cruelty-free. I’d like to try the HD Concealer Wand and the Gotcha Covered Concealer.
  • Tarte: I want almost all these products. The most expensive being the Aquacealer Concealer and that being the item I want the most. I just love the packaging and branding of tarte so much. I want it!
  • IT Cosmetics: There is a short list of brands that impressed me, and one of the brands on that list is It Cosmetics. I loved their CC Cream and would love to try this Bye Bye Under Eye Anti-Aging Concealer. Doesn’t hurt that it’s SPF 50!

Non-Cruelty-Free Brands

  • Maybelline: There are other Maybelline concealers I’d like to try. The SuperStay Better Skin Concealer seems to be a favourite among the beauty gurus I follow, and so is the Instant Age Rewind Eraser (but I will admit, the applicator is what’s scaring me off…)
  • benefit cosmetics: I want to try a lot of these, but mostly the boi-ing full coverage concealer. I haven’t used a lot from benefit, but I just like the look and sound of it. Boi-ing!
  • Amazing Cosmetics: I know I’m cheating a little bit with this list, but this one is the Hydrate concealer that they carry. I can only assume it’s awesome because I love the other one so much but I’ve never used a concealer stick before!

Makeup Monday: Cruelty-Free and Vegan Products

Makeup Monday

Over the past couple of years, I went from “sometimes putting eyeliner and lipstick on” to learning how to take care of your skin and how to do that with makeup. I just wanted to share the love for all things beauty and skin-care related. Let me know what you think!

Today, if you weren’t paying attention, I want to talk about cruelty-free and vegan products! I’ve always cared about animals so when I went vegetarian in college, it was for the animals. Yes, I was one of those girls. But just because I eat meat again, doesn’t mean I stopped caring.

The new “trend” now is to go cruelty-free and/or vegan in your makeup and beauty routine. I have to admit I might try this in the near future because I found out a lot of my favourite brands are cruelty-free. I found Cruelty Free Kitty, which offers a whole list of makeup, skin care, beauty, and nail care brands that are cruelty free, vegan, or both. I don’t know if this is a full list or even a true list, but judging from her Instagram, she does a lot of research, and if it is, I use a lot of brands that are on here already and that makes me pretty happy:

And recently, a beauty vlogger I follow recently decided to go cruelty-free and here is her video in which she destashes foundations that aren’t cruelty free:

I actually was going to include her in my Inspiration Thursday last week but decided to post her video today instead. In one of her cruelty-free videos, Miss Billy says she isn’t going to throw away everything that tests on animals, but she won’t buy anything new that does test on animals, so I think that’s what I’ll do too. I just bought a lot of drug-store makeup, but from now on, I’ll probably be more cruelty-free-conscious (if that’s the phrase for it?). What a great idea!

Makeup Monday: June Birchbox

Makeup Monday

Over the past couple of years, I went from “sometimes putting eyeliner and lipstick on” to learning how to take care of your skin and how to do that with makeup. I just wanted to share the love for all things beauty and skin-care related. Let me know what you think!

I got my June Birchbox! This month, Birchbox updated their policy and it was a little controversial. I decided that if I liked my box this month, I’d keep my subscription, and if I didn’t like it, I’d cancel it. Besides, my year was up and it was time to decide whether or not I wanted to spend more money or not. I ended up not liking the box as much as I had hoped, more details below, and I didn’t want to spend the money, so I cancelled it. I might pick it back up in the future! Without further ado, here is my review of my June Birchbox!

I went a little more adventurous when it came to this box, because I loved the geometric pattern, so I took a series of pictures.
June Birchbox: Overview

One of the main reason I love Birchbox is the gorgeous boxes. When I saw this box on their Instagram, I really hoped I got it, and I’m glad I did!
June Birchbox: Box Design

The first item is this Coola Environmental Repair Plus Radical Recovery After-Sun Lotion. I’m a little conflicted about this product, because I’m excited about the brand (I love Coola) but I don’t get burnt a lot so I don’t know if I’ll ever use this. However, I’m glad I have it in case I do get burnt again.
June Birchbox: Coola

The second item is this Avène Thermal Spring Water. It is water in a can. This is one of the main reasons I disliked my box. Really? Water in a pressurized can? And all the recent reviews for this product say about the same thing. I can’t believe thermal spring water on my face is any more refreshing than regular water (unless your tap water is no good, I guess?).
June Birchbox: Avene

The third item is this Benefit gimme brow volumizing fiber gel. Now, I am not a brow girl. I can’t be bothered, frankly. I still have trouble getting my eyeshadow and my contour game down, you really expect me to learn about my eyebrow shape too? Now, I’ve been hearing about this gel for a couple weeks, and it doesn’t seem that hard to use, and I have, in fact, used it. But I think they gave me the wrong color (3, light brown) when my hair is dark brown to black, so I’m not sure if that was a mistake or on purpose? Either way, I guess I’ll just use this up until it’s all gone.
June Birchbox: Benefit

The fourth item is this Laura Geller New York Baked Gelato Swirl Illuminator. Probably my second favourite item in the box! So pretty, can’t wait to use it!
June Birchbox: Laura Geller

The fifth item is this The Beauty Crop PBJ Smoothie Stick. I love the color! If it goes on the way it looks, I can’t wait to try this one out. If some of the reviews are right and the color is more translucent and not opaque, then I’m not as excited. But this is still probably my favourite item in this month’s box. I love lip stuff!
June Birchbox: The Beauty Crop

The last reason for why I didn’t like this month’s box is kinda small but it still irked me. The little card that they give you to explain the items was wrong for me – it had the Avéne water, and the Benefit eyebrow gel, but the other three were wrong, and I particularly like reading about those, especially since my two favourites were not on the list. Not a big problem (I’m sure it happens a lot) but still a tad annoying.

I have a couple of other reasons why I’m not renewing my subscription, but overall, I did like Birchbox, but right now, for what they’re offering, I’m just gonna wait and save my money for when I can spend $10 a month on a beauty box that will give me a can of water to spray on my face.

Makeup Monday: Foundations!

Makeup Monday

Over the past couple of years, I went from “sometimes putting eyeliner and lipstick on” to learning how to take care of your skin and how to do that with makeup. I just wanted to share the love for all things beauty and skin-care related. Let me know what you think!

Today I’m going to share the foundations I own and use, and some foundations that are on my wishlist! I’m not a huge fan of foundation. If I don’t have to wear it, I’d probably skip it entirely. From when I first started wearing make up in high school, I’ve pretty much disliked having a layer of foundation on my skin. But maybe now I’m just used to it? Anyway, on to my lists!

Foundations

Own

  1. BareMinerals Matte Powder Foundation – I’ve used this foundation for years and it’s one of my favourites because I just love BareMinerals so much and I don’t know, I just really like the light coverage it provides and wearing this by itself doesn’t make me feel like I’m wearing a layer of foundation. Plus, because it’s a matte foundation, I feel like I’m not as oily with this on.
  2. Elf Flawless Finish Foundation – I bought this on an impulse buy when I was at Walmart, because it was the first time I saw it, and I got excited because everything else I wanted to check out at Walmart was raided. (Literally, so many things were opened and stolen, it was a makeup graveyard.) The feel is fine, I think it’s medium to full coverage, the only thing I hate about this is the smell. If it didn’t have this weird, soapy smell, I don’t think I would’ve thought about getting another liquid foundation so quickly. I wore it once by itself (well, with non-scented primer) and I could smell it all day. However, nowadays, I mix it in with a light moisturizer or lotion hanging around, and I can’t smell it at all, and the lotion scent goes away after a while.
  3. Maybelline Instant Rewind Radiant Firming Makeup – Now, I bought this pretty soon after I got the Elf foundation. I was actually looking for one of the items on my wishlist down there, but I couldn’t find it, and this one was on sale, so I got it. I really like it, it doesn’t have a strong odor that lasts all day (just when putting it on) and it felt pretty light to me. Plus, it’s got some anti-aging properties which I’m always willing to try.
  4. Ulta Double Duty Foundation – If you watched my last video, you know I only got this because I had to get a certain amount of Ulta brand products in order to get the Ulta palette. Well, I’ve used it a couple times. It’s really, really thick, which I guess makes sense because it’s a primer and a foundation all in one. I think it’s a little hard to put on and spread around, even with a damp BeautyBlender or sponge. Maybe I’m doing it wrong? This is probably the thickest foundation I own right now. I’m not sure if this counts as a cream foundation, but if it does, then I’m good on cream foundations for a while.

And I’ll just quickly list my wishlist for foundations to try, because this list has already gone on long enough:

Wishlist – Drugstore brands

Wishlist – Higher-End brands

I don’t know which one I want to get next, it’ll depend on how I’m feeling at the time! Which ones on my wishlist have you tried? My coworker recommended the Make Up Forever Ultra HD Foundation to me, she said that should be the next one I should get; do you guys agree?
