Makeup Monday: Ulta Haul Video!

Makeup Monday

Over the past couple of years, I went from “sometimes putting eyeliner and lipstick on” to learning how to take care of your skin and how to do that with makeup. I just wanted to share the love for all things beauty and skin-care related. Let me know what you think!

Today’s Makeup Monday is a haul video I did for a recent big-ish online Ulta Haul! You can watch it here in all my silliness:

Makeup Monday: Current Morning and Night Routine

Makeup Monday

Over the past couple of years, I went from “sometimes putting eyeliner and lipstick on” to learning how to take care of your skin and how to do that with makeup. I just wanted to share the love for all things beauty and skin-care related. Let me know what you think!

Today, I want to share my pre- and post-makeup routine!

Morning Routine

Morning

  1. As soon as I get out of bed, I try to wash my face with a cleanser. Right now, I’m using BareMinerals’ Clay Chameleon Transforming Purifying Cleanser. I love this so much, I only hate that it’s kinda expensive for how much you get because I would get it all the time. It smells nice and fruity and it goes on super creamy but then turns white when you massage it into your skin. I used it up really quickly though, maybe like two, three months maximum, and I’m just using like a quarter-size dollop twice a day (at night too, but we’ll get to that). I really only bought this because the sales lady said it was like a mask, which, I guess it kinda goes on like a mask, that’s true. I still really like it.
  2. Right after the cleanser, I go for a nice toner. I usually use witch hazel, but since I got the BareMinerals cleanser, I also got a toner. In this case, I got the BareMinerals Skinlongevity Vital Power Infusion and oh my god did it cut a hole in my wallet. Super pricey, but I really do love the smell (also fruity!). I wouldn’t rave about this as much as the cleanser. The instructions say two pumps, but sometimes I can get away with one pump of the serum. However, I really do love this packaging. It’s so pretty, I want to try to see if I can reuse it after, maybe I’ll put some witch hazel in there when I’m done and I’ll see if that works. Might be too watery.
  3. After the toner drys, I moisturize! Moisturize me, moisturize me! Right now I’m using Jason Gluten Free Facial Creme. I will say that I think gluten will only hurt you if you swallow it, even if you have Celiac’s disease, but I’m not a doctor or a dermatologist, so. I will say I love this creme when I tried it out, so I’m not complaining!

Night Routine

Night

  1. Alright, after I take my makeup off (I use coconut oil and a face towel), I use the same cleanser and toner as I do in the morning. But then, I use this lovely eye cream on the eye area by Nourish Organic. I got a sample from Ipsy and it was called “Renewing Eye Cream” when I received it, but it looks like now it’s called Rewnewing + Cooling Eye Treatment Cream. Anyways, the smell is interesting, kinda reminds me of an old Aveeno product I used as a kid. Grain-y maybe? Anyway, I use just a little bit and it really moisturizes my eyes. Love it.
  2. At the same time, I use this sample of Balance Me Congested Skin Serum that I got from Birchbox on my little blemishes and pimples. I love the way it smells; it’s a very light gingery smell and it doesn’t linger, if ginger isn’t your thing.
  3. Then right before bed, I use this Avon Anew Reversalist Complete Renewal Night Cream as a moisturizer. Really thick, with a lovely smell, this moisturizer makes me feel like my skin is locked in for the night. I needed a night cream, and at the same time, my then-coworker became an Avon lady, so it all kinda worked out. Pretty fond of the smell and the packaging is super cute. Love it!

That’s my daily routine right now! I just ran out of an exfoliant not too long ago, so I’m looking to replace it. If you have any suggestions for an exfoliant, or if you have any comments about my daily routine, let me know!

Makeup Monday: May Birchbox

Makeup Monday

Over the past couple of years, I went from “sometimes putting eyeliner and lipstick on” to learning how to take care of your skin and how to do that with makeup. I just wanted to share the love for all things beauty and skin-care related. Let me know what you think!

I got my Birchbox on Saturday, so I decided to write this Makeup Monday about my Birchbox!

Birchbox May 2016

Birchbox May 2016

First of all, the box is so freaking pretty. I like the change of moving the logo from the center and putting it in a bottom corner. Makes it very classy. This month’s theme is sun protection and was sponsored by Keds.

So the theme related item in my box is obviously the Coola face moisturizer. I love Coola products so I can’t wait to try this one out! Here’s the description that came with the box:

May Birchbox: Coola
COOLA®
Classic Face Sport SPF 50 White Tea | Full-size, $32
This sheer, moisturizing SPF provides lasting protection and hydration for an active lifestyle.

Here were the other items:

May Birchbox: Burt's Bees
Burt’s Bees
Tinted Lip Balm – Sweet Violet | Full-size, $7
We heard you like to keep things natural, so try this multitasking, moisturizing balm that has a subtle pop of color.

So, the last time I tried a Burt’s Bees product, I thought I had an allergic reaction and never went back. Then I found out it wasn’t an allergic reaction, it was a cold sore and it was an unfortunate coincidence. I still haven’t tried many lip balms because of this fake fear though, but I am ready to get back on the saddle and try this! I also really like the color, it probably is the one that matches me the best.

eyeko_skinnyliquideyeliner
Eyeko
Skinny Liquid Eyeliner | Full-size, $16
From the go-to UK eye makeup line, this user-friendly liquid liner goes on velvety smooth.

I’m currently using the last Eyeko Fat Liquid Eyeliner and I love it, so I can’t wait to use this one!

matrix_oil
Matrix
Oil Wonders Volume Rose Plumping Mousse | Full-size, $20
This nourishing, light-hold formula provides up to 78% more volume for fine hair. Bonus! We’ve added in this shampoo/conditioner duo that primes hair by removing buildup and delicately cleansing (Full-size, $18)

So Birchbox keeps insisting on giving me shampoo and conditioner, and I always just end up giving it to my mom because my hair is fickle. However, I am pretty excited to try out that mousse. It smells so good!

parlor_moisturizingseasaltspray
PARLOR® by Jeff Chastain

This celeb stylist’s non-drying sea salt spray give you soft, beachy waves and smells amazing.
I love sea salt spray, and this smells so good, so I can’t wait to use it!

Let me know what you think about my samples and if you have any opinions on them before I try them!

Makeup Monday: Some Lip Stuffs!

Makeup Monday

Over the past couple of years, I went from “sometimes putting eyeliner and lipstick on” to learning how to take care of your skin and how to do that with makeup. I just wanted to share the love for all things beauty and skin-care related. Let me know what you think!

Some Lip Stuff!

I promised a blog post about lip stuff, so here it is! There’s no real theme to this! There should have been, but I really just pulled some lip stuff that I saw and wanted to write a blog post about.

  • Nars Satin Lip Pencil in Rikugien – This is like a rosey pinkish color that adds a little sheen to my lips! I like it because it goes on really smooth and you can put it on in a hurry. The only thing I don’t like about the Nars lip pencils are the fact you have to sharpen them with a sharpener. That’s super annoying. I got this as a gift from Sephora for my birthday last year! I haven’t used much because I don’t like sharpening it, but I think I’ve gotten over it now and have started using it more. This smells kinda perfume-y!
  • City Color Creamy Lip Stain in Flirtini – I love lip tints, lip paints and lip stains, they just totally make my day. They stay on really long and you can layer them. It’s awesome! Anyway, this one mimics my natural pinkish lip color so I really like it. I got this as a sample an ipsy bag! It smells kinda fruity and I love it.
  • Revlon ColorBurst Balm Stain in Romantic – Like I said, love love love lip stains. This one stays on forever and is moisturizing. I love this so much. I bought this one myself from a Walgreens on a hunch I’d like it, and I love it! It has a nice mint-y smell that all their Colorburst products seem to have (I have another one not pictured) and I love it so much!
  • noyah lipstick in Deeply in Mauve – I honestly never really liked mauve. Until this lipstick. This gives me a really bold lip without being too crazy. I really like it, and therefore almost never wear it because I don’t want to use it up. I’ll vow right now to use it more! It came in an ipsy bag and I’m forever grateful!
  • NYC Expert Last Lip Color in Red Rapture – I love deep red lipstick, but it doesn’t like me. My face is usually very, very red so when I put red lipstick on, let just say I look pretty stupid. But this lipstick has cool undertones and doesn’t make me look dumb! In fact, I think this is the only red lipstick I didn’t throw away in my most recent makeup purge. (In the Sephora/Nars gift I got, they also gave me a deep red lip pencil that I don’t hate and I also didn’t throw away. Just putting it out there!) Best part, it smells like cherries and therefore it’s awesome.

You can view the full swatches (and how they look on my arm) if you click below!

Some Lip Swatches!

Let me know if you like any of these products! I went from “I use this almost everyday” to “I almost never use this because it’s so awesome” so let me know what you think of that! And I tried taking pictures of the lipstick on my lips, but wow, makeup photography is really, really hard you guys. It’s super hard. Thanks for reading!

Makeup Monday: Sun Protection!

I’m on vacation! This is a pre-scheduled blog post for your enjoyment. Let me know what you think!

Makeup Monday

Over the past couple of years, I went from “sometimes putting eyeliner and lipstick on” to learning how to take care of your skin and how to do that with makeup. I just wanted to share the love for all things beauty and skin-care related. Let me know what you think!

You might know I’m on vacation and I’ll be in the sun a lot (I’m assuming…. We’re in SoCal!) so I thought it would be a good idea to talk about sun protection! So normally, if it’s over 80°, I’m probably going to be dousing myself in sunscreen with the highest SPF I can find (usually between 50-70 SPF) and wearing sunglasses, so I don’t wear a lot of makeup. I will maybe put some lipgloss or chapstick on if I remember. Otherwise, if I’m staying outside and it’s that hot, I’m probably just there to have fun, like eat a lot or ride a lot of roller coasters. It’s definitely more important to me to not get burnt while having fun than to look good.

That’s when I use products like Supergoop and Coola help! I got my samples of these two brands in one of my Birchboxes so that’s where I’m linking to (I’m not sponsored, nor are are these affiliate links, promise!), but you can find them just about anywhere online. These are the products I got that I used, and what I thought of them!

Sunscreen

  1. Supergoop Hand Cream SPF 40 – I like this idea because I’m always putting lotion on my hands so having this on me while I’m out and about is pretty awesome. It does smell like sunscreen though.
  2. Coola SPF 30 Cucumber Moisturizer – Smells like cucumber! Though you do have an underlying sunscreen smell (they just can’t seem to get rid of it!) This one is mostly made of organic ingredients, if that’s your thing!
  3. Supergoop Everyday Sunscreen SPF 50 – It smells like sunscreen, but it’s oil free and rich in anti-oxidants!
  4. Bonus! Before the samples, I just used Neutrogena sunscreen, as it was the most friendly for my face!

However, if it’s a normal work day and I’m going to work, I know my face will be in the sun for about an hour total while driving and maybe I’ll be outside on break for 15 minutes, so I tried these samples from Birchbox and ipsy for everyday, under-makeup wear. (Again, the links to Birchbox can also be found elsewhere. The two samples from Ipsy are linked to the brand website and can also be found elsewhere.)

Makeup with SPF

  1. Coola Face SPF 30 Unscented Matte Tint – It was indeed unscented which was much appreciated! I used it like a moisturizer/primer and put on my makeup over it. It has been a while since I finished this sample, so I have no other comments!
  2. Dr. Jart+ Premium Beauty Balm SPF 45+ – This is the stuff I’m using right now, it’s pretty great. Also unscented, I think, I mean, it smells like BB balm/foundation? Use like regular BB balm/primer, provides great coverage. Probably one of my favourites!
  3. Bare Republic SPF 30 Tinted Mineral Face Sunscreen Lotion – My first one on the list from Ipsy! It’s also by Coola. Not really unscented, kinda smells fruity? Wear it like primer/moisturizer. It has light to medium coverage, and it’s a little chalky. It does separate if you leave it too long (so it could dry out potentially?) but if you give it a shake, it will all blend together again.
  4. IT Your Skin But Better™ CC Cream with SPF 50+ – Another one from Ipsy! And another one of my favourites. Great coverage, like the Dr. Jart+ one, you use it like regular CC cream/primer, and has great coverage. I has been a while, again, since I finished this one, so I can’t remember what it smells like. I wanna say fruity? I was really sad when I finished this. I might pick it up again!
  5. Coola SPF 30 Organic Makeup Setting Spray – It has a very, very light scent of sunscreen, but it’s kind of pleasing and not too overpowering like regular sunscreen. It’s my first makeup setting spray! It really made my makeup stay all day at work, but since I have no comparison I can’t say anything else but that.
  6. Supergoop Daily Correct CC Cream SPF 35+ – I got this in my April box and have yet to use it! I will probably be using it on my trip so I’ll let you know how I like it! I just wanted to include it because I just received it :)
  7. Bonus! On a regular day, if I don’t have one of these at the ready, my regular everyday foundation is the bareMinerals Matte Foundation Broad Spectrum SPF 15, so it has a little sunprotection already! It does help to have some extra protection (after all SPF 15 is not a lot) but any help is good!

What makeup products do you use that protect you from the sun? Have you used any of these products? Let me know!
