Top Five Celebrity Crushes

Here’s a more detailed topic from my My Facts post, and one of my favourite topics to talk about in real life: Top Five!

Now, if you don’t know what a Top Five is, I think it started with the Friends episode, The One with Frank Jr., but Ross starts making a list of 5 celebrities he’s allowed to sleep with if given the chance. Basically the trope is (copied from the concept of having an agreement with your partner about being able to have sex with five celebrities of your choice, should you have a chance to score. Of course, you’re never going to have this chance, nor if you did, would they even be interested in you in the first place. But, it’s a fun topic to talk about, especially with your friends.

You can watch the full episode here, and the explanation starts at 8:40.

I like talking about this because everyone has different opinions on aesthetics (the nice way of saying sexiness) and personality so everyone has a different Top Five. All the girls I’ve talked to about their Top Five have different celebrities on there, and most of us straight women have an additional “Girl Crush Top Five” which is pretty self-explanatory. Some of the lists are based on looks while some lists are based on auras or personality. Most of the straight guys I’ve talked to only have one female celebrity on their list, (though I will say I don’t have too many straight guy friends to whom I’ve broached this topic). In addition, tastes change with time, and some celebrities will become popular as the months and years go on.

I briefly mentioned in my pop culture post, but here are my Top Five lists:

My list consists of a fine mixture between aesthetics and personality. First is:

  1. Robert Downey Jr. – I love a man with good scruff, and he’s got the best cocky-but-not-super-arrogant personality.
  2. Chris Hardwick – Chris is my favourite stand-up comedian, and I love a guy I can joke with! Plus, he’s also got the scruff going on (I seriously love scruff.)
  3. Grant Imahara – I’ve loved Grant since he started on Mythbusters all those years ago. I didn’t have cable until I got into college, and then I just watched it religiously. He’s geeky and adorable, hands down my favourite combination.
  4. Tom Hiddleston – Just a straight-up handsome actor dude. I also love his Loki’d series he did with MTV; he’s the best!
  5. Jason Momoa – Another scruffy guy, I love his arms (god, yes) and his general bad-boy-look-but-charming-and-funny demeanor.
  6. Honourable Mention: Chris Pratt – Like Jason, another scruffy, good-looking, adorable, funny guy.

Above All: My boyfriend Taylor (of course) – He’s my combination of all 6 and he’s perfect for me ♥

My female list are all girl crushes based on style, aesthetic, and attitude.

  1. Jennifer Lawrence – My favourite leading lady at the moment, and one who fights for equal rights, JLaw is just the best, period. She’s also hilarious and can we be friends now please?
  2. Kristen Bell – I loved her on Heroes (but I still haven’t watched Veronica Mars, which I know, I know, I have to get to), and her interactions with Craig Ferguson on The Late Late Show make her just seem fun to be around. Plus, if you haven’t seen Kristen’s sloth meltdown on Ellen, how are you even here right now. Let’s be friends Kristen!
Olivia Wilde – Olivia has the most gorgeous eyes ever. I loved her in The Black Donnellys and House and she seems like such a sweet, down-to-earth person.
Natalie Dormer – Natalie just always looks awesome to me, especially with her bad-ass hair cut that I totally want but could not pull off.
Emma Stone – I love redheads, and Emma just seems like a funny, genuine person. I wish we were friends!
  3. Honourable Mention: Mila Kunis – My love for her is purely based on her hilarious interactions with Craig Ferguson but also I love her style and her smoky eye.

Above All: All my awesome, amazing friends! I love all your styles and aesthetics and attitudes! I love you guys! ♥

Hope that clears things up! Who are your top five? Thanks for reading, and be sure to check out the rest of My Facts list (as well as past and future posts explaining them)!

My Love for Animals

Yet another topic from My Facts post! This time, I want to talk about animals!

As a child, I was an animal junkie. I took in as much animal information as my little brain could handle. We didn’t have cable, so my brother and I would watch every other channel that we could understand. As a result, we watched ton of PBS, and Zoboomafoo and Kratt’s Creatures were staples for us. I can’t remember how we found them or what they were called, but there were these animal books and pamphlets that we read every night. I’m sure it was super annoying for my grandparents and parents to read it over and over again to us. We borrowed a ton of books from the library and went to zoos as often as we could. Our favourite animal was probably the tiger. (True story, I used to have a tiger poster over my bed until middle of college.)

We had some animals as children but not your average cats and dogs. When we were little, my maternal grandparents lived with us, and my grandma hated cats and dogs and rodents. We somehow had a tortoise and we had it for a while, but we woke up one morning, and a cat or some other animal had gotten to it, and it had died in the night. My grandpa cooked it that night and made soup; I remember being really disgusted that we were eating a deceased pet and not wanting to eat it. We also had a rooster and I remember petting it while it ate the food we gave it. I can’t remember what happened to it, but we probably ate it too. We also won some goldfish from a faire or festival or something, and we had one that lived for over 10 years. It was a giant goldfish when it died!

Nowadays, I wouldn’t call myself a junkie but I’m definitely still an animal lover! I still find animal facts wherever I can; there’s a great subreddit called r/awwducational. Did you know hippos sweat pink, and are closely related to whales and porpoises? And I still love going to zoos, especially those that are humane and promote conservation! The SF zoo is a great example; I’m not sure about the other animals, but I learned that some of the giraffes travel to breed, and some babies are even brought back to Africa to replenish the giraffe population! Which is a great segue to my next topic: my favourite wild animals now are giraffes! They are majestic and have the most adorable eyes and I just love watching them. They are the best, period. My favourite domesticated animals are cows and cats. I think cows have some of the prettiest eyes and cats are just adorable butt heads. But I also find snakes cute! And dogs! And hedgedogs and pigs and snow leopards and…you get the jist. I really, really love animals.

As of right now, my household is still fur-free. I’d like to own dogs one day, and I would be proud to grow old as a crazy cat lady. We owned 2 chinchillas for about 3 years; they just passed away this summer. It was really hard when we lost them and I miss them often. We aren’t totally pet-free though; we still have some goldfish! There’s about 5-6 in a giant tank.

I believe in animal conservation, and I think, if I had been better in science, I would have gone in that direction, career-wise. I used to be vegetarian because, as you can imagine, loving cows as much as I do, it was hard to eat beef without feeling a little guilty. I have now since reverted to eating meat but I still feel a little guilty sometimes, and avoid eating too much beef.

This was probably too much information all at once but I hope that provided a little more insight into what I like and what I’m interested in! Thanks for reading!

Stationery Love!

Another topic from My Facts post and definitely something I’ve been obsessed with for years, stationery!

I think, for as long as I can remember, I have been obsessed with stickers, pens, and paper. Even as a child, I wanted them in every color, size, and type, and multiple copies so I could collect one copy and use the rest. I wanted to look at them and touch them and admire them and feel them. I don’t know what it is; maybe I enjoy the color combinations of the ink on the paper, maybe I like the creativity that the stickers provide, maybe I’m just a weirdo. We’ll never know for sure (but I do coo over the colors of pens and paper, and the adorability of stickers…).

Before I realized my obsession, I used to want notebooks for the sole reason of owning them. It didn’t matter how many plain Mead notebooks I already had, I didn’t have that one in that color. Thankfully, my mom didn’t indulge me on my every whim, but as soon as I got an allowance, the first thing I bought, after a quick 7-Eleven trip, was some cute stationery from a Korean store called Morning Glory. I had some of friends who were also into it, so we bonded quickly over brands like Blue Bear, Babu, and White. I still think the best, and cutest, one is Blue Bear. Another thing I bought as a kid was a Blue Bear planner, and filled it with cute month/week spreads, and even cuter memo paper.

Nowadays, I’ve moved on to stores like Maido and brands like Strathmore, but I’m still a huge fan of all stationery, especially cheap (but cute) stationery, so stores like Daiso are the epitome for an addict like me. I am also really into bookbinding and other DIY notebooks! I can’t wait to share my future projects and notebooks with you!

That’s all I can think of right now! I hope this provided a little insight into who I am and what I like to talk about!

I Enjoy Pop Culture

I am picking and choosing topics from My Facts post and one of my favourite topics is the media and pop culture. I like everything from lighthearted Buzzfeed quizzes on how well you know Disney lyrics to serious science fiction like Battlestar Galactica. Here are some more things I like in pop culture!

I love anything in the action genre: superheroes, procedural dramas, martial arts, etc. I will watch anything with Jason Statham or Liam Neeson in it; I watched Furious 7 because I heard Jason Statham was the bad guy. My boyfriend makes fun of me all the time for watching cop dramas, but I love anything in the procedural drama genre; it’s all about mystery and guns! This can range from “whodunit” dramas like NCIS and Law and Order, to sci-fi mysteries like Alphas or Eureka. I love to laugh and I’m a girl, so of course I have to like romantic comedies. I’m joking, but I actually do love romantic comedies. The last one I watched was on Netflix and it was called One Small Hitch. I also just love any comedy, as long as it’s not cheesy. I really love Parks and Rec, @midnight, and Psych. I also love anything animated, especially if it’s from Pixar or Studio Ghibli (the studio that Hayao Miyazaki started). My favourite Pixar movie is definitely Big Hero 6 (and I’m super stoked that there’s gonna be a sequel!) and my favourite Studio Ghibli movie is The Cat Returns.

For books, I usually stick to fiction like mysteries, sci-fi, or romance, but I’ve been known to read some autobiographies, memoirs, and self-help books! I follow a lot of blogs, and I use Feedly as my RSS reader; I read everything from beauty blogs like Girl with Curves and Profresh Style, to design blogs like Design Milk, and The Dieline. I also follow animal blogs like Cute Overload, crochet blogs like Twinkie Chan, and food blogs like Brown Eyed Baker. My favourite website, though is a tie between Nerdist and Brit + Co because they’re both equally awesome!

I am also a comic book fan! I’m not a hardcore reader, and I don’t have a lot of facts crammed in my head because frankly there are other things I should be remembering besides what a character has or has not done. That being said, I am 100% more of a Marvel person than a DC person. I am a huge Deadpool fan, and I enjoyed the Marvel Civil War series when it first came out way back in 2006. My brother actually tuned me into it, so it’s another reason I hold it very close to my heart.

Now onto celebrities. In the first episode of my podcast with Sowmya, we talked about each of our Top 5s, which is basically a list of your top five celebrities. Here are my two, for both women and men.

Women Men
  1. Jennifer Lawrence
  2. Mila Kunis
    Olivia Wilde
    Kristen Bell
    Emma Stone
  1. Robert Downey Jr.
  2. Chris Hardwick
  3. Grant Imahara
  4. Tom Hiddleston
  5. Jason Momoa

In my original post, I said these will be the celebrities I will be fangirling about most often. I also included Chris Pratt in my facts post because frankly I’m thinking of dropping Tom Hiddleston and putting Chris Pratt up there (but don’t tell Sowmya!). Plus my boyfriend has a total Chris Pratt vibe going on right now so that doesn’t hurt :)

You can read a detailed version of my list here, including reasons for why and how I began to like them!

I don’t like gossip but if I heard David Boreanaz cheated on his wife a couple of years ago (which is totally what I heard), I will totally talk about that.

That’s all I can think of right now! I hope this provided a little insight into who I am and what I like to talk about!

Some Facts about Me (or: Things I Might Blog About)

My Facts

There are certain subjects that will come up often in my blog, and here is a master list!

  1. I Love Art
  2. First and foremost, I love art. Mostly vectors, illustrations and typography, but I also love a good-looking painting a handsome website, even just a really well-designed couch. I don’t just like physical art; I thoroughly appreciate music, photography, cinematography, story-telling, and dance. I’ve particularly always enjoyed taiko drum performances, which combine dance, music, and storytelling. I will post interesting art I find and want to share! All art will be credited to the artist, unless that artist is me! I hope to also make and post “art” as I make it (by no means do I consider myself an “artist”).

  3. I Have a Podcast
  4. In late 2014/early 2015, I was unsatisfied in my creative side, so I started up a podcast with a good friend, Sowmya! It is called We’re The Worst, and we just hang out! We have a different topic every week, and we answer questions, and it’s generally a good time! It helped teach me a lot about life, like trying to get things uploaded on time, recording with dueling schedules, and trying to promote yourself, which is something I will never enjoy. I also learned a little about podcasting, like microphones, iTunes RSS feeds, and Audacity. I will post links to podcast episodes as they are posted! I will also post about podcasts I enjoy so other people can enjoy them too!

  5. I Crochet
  6. I started crocheting at the end of 2011 and have completed at least 40 projects since then! I hope to occasionally post projects I’m working on, yarn purchases, and maybe some crochet inspiration I find!

  7. I Love Stationery
  8. Stickers, washi tape, notebooks, paper, pens, pencils, and everything else in-between! I love it all: anything cute or colorful; anything having to do with planners or scrapbooking; anything that can be found in Maido and Paper Source. I hope to post about my (cheap) stationery hauls and maybe a look into my planner!
You can read more about this here!

  9. I’m Super Pro-LGBTQI and a Feminist
  10. I love all people equally! Except meanies. I hope to post interesting news articles about equality from all fronts! #LoveWins!

  11. I Am Eco-Conscious
  12. I’ve been trying to be green and save the human race since I was about 5. I learned about recycling, reducing, and reusing on PBS and haven’t stopped since. (I say “trying to save the human race,” because the earth will still be here long after global warming kills us all :)) I hope to post about ways I stay green!

  13. I Love Animals
  14. My favourite wild mammals are giraffes and whales. My favourite breeds of cats are Exotic Shorthairs, Maine Coons, and Birmans. My favourite breeds of dogs are French Bulldogs, Pugs, and Shiba Inus. I also love cows and snakes! I owned two chinchillas, but they passed away in July 2015. I will probably post cute animal pictures to cheer myself up.
You can read more about this here!

  15. I Have a Boyfriend
  16. Taylor and I got together roughly 3 years ago; our actual anniversary date is sometime at the July, but we agreed to move it to a day we would remember, so officially our anniversary is May 4th, which some of my fellow nerds will recognize as May The Fourth or Star Wars Day. I will probably talk about him from time to time because he’s pretty awesome ♥ and we do a lot together!

  17. More Recurring Friends and Family!
  18. I have a handful of great friends and we do stuff together! I will list them here with their permission, but most of my personal friends are pretty private, so they will just be noted by first name, and if they want, whichever social media they want to promote! Julie, Diana, Dorothy, Kris, Scott, and of course Sowmya! I also have a mom I do a lot with, and various other family I see pretty often.

  19. I Enjoy Pop Culture
  20. Like most people, I enjoy movies, TV, and the occasional book or other reading material, so I’ll probably talk about things I watched or read, or media I’m excited about! I also love a few celebrities! I will refer to these celebrities a lot and I’m letting you guys know now so I don’t have to apologize in the future. They are Robert Downey Jr., Chris Hardwick, Grant Imahara, Tom Hiddleston, Jason Momoa, Jennifer Lawrence, Mila Kunis, Olivia Wilde, Kristen Bell, Emma Stone, and Chris Pratt. I’m sorry for all the fangirling ahead, and this will be my only apology. (Sorry, not sorry!)
You can read more about this here!

  21. I love Lists!
  22. …Is it obvious? I will share lists I make! :D

I’m going to take some of these subjects and create full posts, and also edit this list as I go, so I hope you’re prepared to know way too much about me!
