Makeup Monday

Makeup Monday: June Birchbox

Over the past couple of years, I went from “sometimes putting eyeliner and lipstick on” to learning how to take care of your skin and how to do that with makeup. I just wanted to share the love for all things beauty and skin-care related. Let me know what you think!

I got my June Birchbox! This month, Birchbox updated their policy and it was a little controversial. I decided that if I liked my box this month, I’d keep my subscription, and if I didn’t like it, I’d cancel it. Besides, my year was up and it was time to decide whether or not I wanted to spend more money or not. I ended up not liking the box as much as I had hoped, more details below, and I didn’t want to spend the money, so I cancelled it. I might pick it back up in the future! Without further ado, here is my review of my June Birchbox!

I went a little more adventurous when it came to this box, because I loved the geometric pattern, so I took a series of pictures.

One of the main reason I love Birchbox is the gorgeous boxes. When I saw this box on their Instagram, I really hoped I got it, and I’m glad I did!

June Birchbox: Coola
June Birchbox: Coola

The first item is this Coola Environmental Repair Plus Radical Recovery After-Sun Lotion. I’m a little conflicted about this product, because I’m excited about the brand (I love Coola) but I don’t get burnt a lot so I don’t know if I’ll ever use this. However, I’m glad I have it in case I do get burnt again.

June Birchbox: Avene

The second item is this Avène Thermal Spring Water. It is water in a can. This is one of the main reasons I disliked my box. Really? Water in a pressurized can? And all the recent reviews for this product say about the same thing. I can’t believe thermal spring water on my face is any more refreshing than regular water (unless your tap water is no good, I guess?).

June Birchbox: Benefit

The third item is this Benefit gimme brow volumizing fiber gel. Now, I am not a brow girl. I can’t be bothered, frankly. I still have trouble getting my eyeshadow and my contour game down, you really expect me to learn about my eyebrow shape too? Now, I’ve been hearing about this gel for a couple weeks, and it doesn’t seem that hard to use, and I have, in fact, used it. But I think they gave me the wrong color (3, light brown) when my hair is dark brown to black, so I’m not sure if that was a mistake or on purpose? Either way, I guess I’ll just use this up until it’s all gone.

June Birchbox: Laura Geller

The fourth item is this Laura Geller New York Baked Gelato Swirl Illuminator. Probably my second favourite item in the box! So pretty, can’t wait to use it!

June Birchbox: The Beauty Crop

The fifth item is this The Beauty Crop PBJ Smoothie Stick. I love the color! If it goes on the way it looks, I can’t wait to try this one out. If some of the reviews are right and the color is more translucent and not opaque, then I’m not as excited. But this is still probably my favourite item in this month’s box. I love lip stuff!

The last reason for why I didn’t like this month’s box is kinda small but it still irked me. The little card that they give you to explain the items was wrong for me – it had the Avéne water, and the Benefit eyebrow gel, but the other three were wrong, and I particularly like reading about those, especially since my two favourites were not on the list. Not a big problem (I’m sure it happens a lot) but still a tad annoying.

I have a couple of other reasons why I’m not renewing my subscription, but overall, I did like Birchbox, but right now, for what they’re offering, I’m just gonna wait and save my money for when I can spend $10 a month on a beauty box that will give me a can of water to spray on my face.
